The 116 square mile Gir Wildlife Sanctuary lies inside the southwest with the peninsula state of Gujarat. Considering that 1913 when the lion population fell significantly to only twenty animals, the numbers have increased to around 300, and lions have now spread across numerous states in India. The Asiatic Lion is somewhat smaller than its African cousin and its mane is also smaller. Gir Wildlife Sanctuary is not just about lions, the 2nd most generally discovered predator within the Gir is Leopard. The fact is Gir Nationwide Park is home to one of the biggest Leopard populations in any park in India, and specifically inside the hotter period they are able to from time to time be seen at night near to the lodges. Other animals residents in Gir are Sambar Deer, Chital Spotted Deer, Nilgai Antelope, Chowsingha Gour-Horned Antelope, Chinkara Gazelle, Wild Boar, Langur Monkey, Jackal and Hyena.
